UNIVERSITY PARK - Two local teams claimed state championships Thursday at Penn State University’s Medlar Field.
Meyersdale defeated Clarion 2-0 in the PIAA Class A title game and Central triumphed over Holy Redeemer 8-3 in the Class AAA championship.
For Meyersdale, winning pitcher Riley Christner struck out 12 batters for the Red Raiders, who finished the season 21-6.
Meyersdale lost to Vincentian Academy in last year’s title game.
Central capped off its season with the first ever state baseball championship for the school, as the Dragons jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the second inning and held on for the win.
The Dragons finished the season with a 24-3 overall record.
