DOJ files sexual harassment lawsuit against Falls Creek rental property owner

Federal authorities announced Friday that a sexual harassment lawsuit has been filed against the owner of several rental properties in the Falls Creek area.

Officials say Timothy Britton, the operator of Britton Enterprises LLC, which also goes by the name “Tim’s Apartments,” is alleged to have sexually harassed and retaliated against female tenants for several years.

The lawsuit claims that Britton has repeatedly made unwanted sexual comments towards female tenants, inappropriately touched them and requested sexual contact from them.

Officials add that Britton is also alleged to have offered free or reduced rent in exchange for said sexual contact, and would reportedly "retaliate" against female tenants who refused his sexual advances.

In this day and age, no one should have to endure sexual harassment to keep a roof over their head,” said Assistant Attorney General Kristen Clarke of the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division. “This lawsuit makes clear that the Justice Department stands ready to hold accountable those landlords and housing providers who unlawfully harass and retaliate against tenants. We encourage survivors to speak out when their rights are violated so that we can vindicate their fair housing rights and secure the relief they deserve.

Federal officials are seeking monetary compensation for any alleged victims as well as civil penalties and a court order to prevent any further discrimination.

Anyone who believes they may have been a victim of Britton's sexual advances is asked to contact the housing discrimination tip line at 1-833-591-0291, or submit a report online.
