Nanty Glo man sentenced to max of 6 years in prison in 2021 child abuse case

Authorities with the Cambria County District Attorney's office confirmed that a Nanty Glo man has been sentenced for his role in a child abuse case from late 2021.

Officials say Robert Oaks Jr., now age 20, was sentenced last week to serve 3 to 6 years in state prison for the abuse of a then infant child.

Police say the child was transported to the hospital, in Nov. of 2021, for a broken arm, where doctors discovered that the infant had suffered approximately 16 bone fractures, which were in "various stages of healing."

Authorities say Oaks pleaded guilty last October to one felony count of aggravated assault.

Officials say Oaks is eligible for parole but is prohibited from having any contact with the child.

Authorities say Oaks' girlfriend, Sylvia Kutchman, also entered a guilty plea in the case to charges of simple assault and reckless endangerment.

Kutchman reportedly stated to medical personnel, at the time, that Oaks “is too rough with her,” referring to the baby, police say.

Officials say Kutchman is scheduled to be sentenced on April 27th.
