The community gathered once again to commemorate a local paramedic that died in the line of duty.
Janice Keen-Livingston was killed in 2015 while helping those involved in an accident on an icy morning on Menoher Boulevard in Upper Yoder Township.
Family and friends as well as local first responders held a ceremony at the Summer Hill Fire Department early Saturday morning to dedicate a bridge in honor of Janice.
The memorial bridge is located on route 219 over state route 53 in Croyle Township in Cambria County.
“Anytime a first responder loses their life in the line of duty, I think it rallies the community around the work that these people do," said Rep. Frank Burns of the 72nd district. "They truly are putting their lives in place of other people and they’re taking the initiatives to volunteer in our communities."
The brother of Janice Keen-Livingston, Kenneth Keen, who is also the Lower Yoder Fire Chief, further highlights the outpouring of support that they and other first-responders have received since the accident.
“Since the accident, the first responder community in the county, and even outside of the county, has just been tremendous," said Keen. "As they say the first responders are a family."
Supporters want to combine the memory of Janice and the importance of the work first responders do for our community.
“My hope is that this can bring some attention to the work that the first responders do and memorialize the life of Janice Keen Livingston," said Rep. Burns.
